Help Identify

Can anyone tell me how to identify this piece I bought? I have looked all over for a serial number or anything.

It's a Victor Victrola, I'm not sure of model number, could be the XIV, later style with the big horn doors, but the right tonearm has been replaced with an incorrect one of another brand

With all respect that is not a Victor product. That's an exanple off an off brand machine that flooded the market when patents began to expire for the big three of Victor, Columbia, and Brunswick about 1917. (I think Brunswick replaced Edison in market share by that time.). Many of the off brand machines were made to resemble Victrolas and were filled with generic mechanisms with many using pot metal tone arm assemblies.

It's an off-brand Victrola. Victor's patents expired in 1917, and suddenly every manufacturer was trying to copy the popular Victor style, often with lower quality materials.
I've never heard of a "White House" brand phonograph before, but the fact they used the dome of the US Capitol Building in their logo tells me it's probably not as "quality" as they made it out to be.

In addition to the tonearm, sound box, turntable, needle cups, speed regulator, etc., another give-away that it's a Victrola clone is the horn, which is not fitted with louvers, and is tapered differently:

I know that there was a famous department store in San Francisco called "The White House" -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_White ... ent_store) --but I can't match the logo on the phonograph with anything they sold.

It's clearly not as others have already said. The clue is the big decal in the lid amongst other things! ;)

...along with the missing Victrola applique in the center of the lid. I've seen a number of Victor Victrolas with a similar decal or plate positioned where this one is, identifying the seller--music store, department store, etc.. However, these have always had the Victrola decal in the center of the lid.

That image was not in the OP, where did you get the info to get to it?
The OP only showed images 1 to 3 of 7, and have no clue to the origins... :D :D :D :clover: :clover: :clover:

I found the Facebook ad by doing a Google Image search.

What I did was, I clicked on the image and opened it in a new tab. Then using my browser's new tab jump I opened a second new tab and called up Google image search. In the search box there's a little camera icon. If you click on that, it will open a box that allows you to drag and drop a photo into the box to search for the image. So I then clicked back on the tab containing the image, clicked the image, and dragged it over to the tab for Google images. It then displayed a list of matching images -- one of which was the Facebook ad.

Hope this made sense. It's easier to do than describe.

They're cloning a Victrola, but it's certainly not one. It's a The White House phonograph and while it looks okayish I would personally recommend a genuine Victrola, preferably one of the later ones with the "fat" tone arm and No. 2 reproducer, as that'll be a better one.
