WANTED - Support Bracket for VE8-35

Post by UpstateNYBilly »

If anyone has one of the reproduction support brackets - which are currently not in production, I understand - please let me know. Or if you have an intact original with no problems. Thanks a lot! Bill Daugherty

Bill,

I was in contact with JAS antiques recently and he is working on a new batch of replacement brackets. They will be ready in the coming months.
It is ill advised to use an original bracket, the pot metal will continually expand and fail.

Thanks for the update. I know that they are in the works, but I was just putting feelers out to see if anyone had something in surplus. Thanks for the heads up, too, re: pot metal originals but my experience has been, over the past few decades, that if the pot metal was going to fail it would have by now. I have quite a number of machines with their original brackets which are perfectly fine and do the job. But appreciate the input!

best
Bill

Hi Bill,

As you know all the old pot metal back bracket have swollen and cannot be removed from the pressed steel base that it attaches to without breaking it. The base on the 8-35 and 8-35x is unique to that model. To identify it look for the part number 20991 stamped on the underside. That number is on your current base flange. It will be a tall order but not impossible to find an original base with the attached support.

From our work in creating the replacement sets for the first style Victor changer, 10-50, we discovered that even parts that appeared crack-free and perfect had swollen to the point where they did not work. We could not rely on any measurements taken from original parts, even ones that looked okay. It took much effort to restore the correct dimensions for our replacement parts to work perfectly. The back bracket for your 8-35X has no critical dimensions other than the height of the overhead pin of course so perhaps you’ll get lucky and find an unbroken assembly. Still, the best long term solution is to buy a replacement from JAS when they are available again.

BTW, we have a few sets of new changer parts left for those that need them for their 10-50, 10-51, 10-70 and 9-55.
