Canadian HMV Victor ad.

Post by Lenoirstreetguy »

This is a bit late , but this December 1923 ad has always been one of my favourites. It's from the Toronto Star. The slogan in the window " The Theatre of the Home" seems to have originated in the Montreal advertising department. This pic just oozes Christmas in Toronto in the early 20's: complete with a Salvation Army lass collecting donations in the left foreground and the sleigh coming up the street full of Xmas goodies from the country.

Lovely ad. I assume the Canadian machines stayed much closer to the US Victor models than the UK ones.

Much much. After 1910 or so they were essentially the same machines. Before that there was a bit of overlap in that you could get a Victrola which was just the same as the American one, but the open horned machines were different. Then again in the 'twenties there were several " only in Canada " models which were essntially variations on the American ones...except for the children's victrola of the mid twenties which was the same as HMV's in Britain. AND briefly in early 1925 you could get one of the acoustic " radio adaptables " with a Victor installed radio! Confused yet? :D
