Thank you Jerry, but I don’t need a whole motor. It’s a spring that connects the speed regulator arm to the underside part that holds the Governor and the speed screw in place.Jerry B. wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 10:08 am I have a complete Fireside motor available if that's any help. PM if interested.

Going to an old-fashioned hardware store and getting an extension spring the right length would be a good way to replace the missing spring, just saying.

Unfortunately all the ones in my area closed up shop years ago. We just have Lowe’s and Home Depot.VanEpsFan1914 wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 7:13 pm Going to an old-fashioned hardware store and getting an extension spring the right length would be a good way to replace the missing spring, just saying.

I found a spring that I needed. George Vollema at Great Lakes Phonographs.

Re: Edison Fireside need help?
The original seems stronger and thicker than the one in a click clack ballpen, if not, that's a good source for small springs...

Bad news! The motor on my fireside is not working. I wound it up, and nothing, is moving.

Brake is on or the governor end bearings are too tight. If you try to move those end bearings with the spring wound BE CAREFUL. In fact I wouldn't unless you are fully aware of what can happen if it slips and the spring lets go. Maybe try a good oil soak on the moving parts first.

I’ll give it a shot with oil.

I removed the Governor and now the motor is running. Albeit very slowly. Also, I need to replace the belt. I did oil the gears, and use some WD-40. The motor is running slow, but there is movement.

Paul, If you removed the governor with the main spring under tension (yikes!) and the motor runs slowly then something is definitely wrong.
