Edison Fireside need help?

Turns out, I had put the new governor in, incorrectly. Causing it to be out of alignment. So, I readjusted it.

Also, found the real culprit of my frustration, was the belt. I slipped it off the belt tensioner and next thing I know, the motor is running. So, I need to buy a new belt for this machine. Also, I found a new spring for the speed control arm.

Does the small brass wheel on the belt tensioner turn, or is it stuck by old, dried oil? A stuck idler wheel can stop a motor dead.

It would be kind of odd for a bad belt to stop a motor from running.

The tensioner wheel moves just fine. I don’t think the belt is even leather?

Well, I got one of those wide brown rubber bands from my parents, and that didn’t work? Even after oiling the top gears.

If I can turn the mandrel with my hand it’s not, seized. The fireside has gears, and the rubber band is not strong enough.

Okay, i’m still frustrated with this machine. I bought a new leather belt and put it on. Wound up the motor removed the brake, and nothing? Someone asked if it might be the wheel on the tensioner spring for the belt. I can get the wheel on there to move. Now, when I turn the mandrel by hand it does feel stiff, but I can move it. It seems like the belt is unable to pull the mandrel. If I move the tensioner spring back, the motor will run.
