“On This Day in the History of Recorded Sound…”

April 6, 1892: Born: Henry Whitter, pioneer folk guitarist and recording artist of the 1920s.

April 6, 1908: Stanislaus Moss filed for a U.S. patent for a “Horn for Talking Machines.” This became the solid-wooden “Music Master” horn, sold for cylinder and disc machines. Manufactured by Sheip & Vandegrift, “Music Master” bells were also supplied for Edison Cygnet horns, and those supplied with the Edison Opera/Concert.

April 6, 1941: Died: Henry Burr, the most prolific of all acoustic-era recording artists.
