Muting an Amberola 30

The amazing Steve Medved did such a super job restoring my Amberola 30 reproducer that I need a removable mute. It was hitting 90 decibels. Any ideas on the best way to do this? I’ve heard a sock but maybe there is a more professional solution. lol Thanks :D

Unless your machine still has the original grille cloth, in which case leave it alone, you could try a thicker cloth.
