Cleaning a Victrola for a first time owner.

Hey everyone. My family recently picked up a VV-XI from my grandmother's house. It runs great, but it could use a little love after collecting dust for so long.

Scanning the forums told me that Kotton Klense is the best way to go for cleaning off old dust, so I'll order some of that. My only concern is a couple stains, particularly a fairly large stain on the front. It looks like some liquid was spilled on it or something.

Would you recommend that I do something special to clean this up before I use Kotton Klense? If so, what?

I wouldn't do anything but start by using KK (or GoJo - non-pumice) first. I promised a few days ago that I would post a thread on how I clean and refresh cabinet finishes, step by step. I'll try to make the time to do that here tomorrow.

It is possible that the discoloration where the spill was will will come off with the other accumulated grunge when you use the Kotton Klenser, depending on how deep the sustance spilled penetrated.

OOh, a XI just like mine (serial 370xxxG, mfd. 1917), at least on the outside. Any photos of the interior? I'll be very interested to see how yours cleans up. I didn't do much to mine, just a rub with Goop (similar to GoJo) and cloths. From the photos, your finish doesn't appear to have the fine alligatoring I see on parts of mine, esp. the front. Keep us posted on your progress.
