What an amazing haul!!! Horn alone is in great shape, everything else is just the bonus of a lifetime! If you ever get the time, I'd love to see what that gold looking box says on it up close. I just wonder if it's phonograph or reproducer specific or just some box used to store a random part. Great job, Ken!

Here is a picture of the label on the gold metal box. Perfection, 1 bdl., ??? 2nd Str. No idea what was originally inside.

Part of it is that some of these guys have nothing better to do than to look all day, usually online.

The odds of finding something in an antique store are almost nil, but it can happen. I found a brass Victor orthophonic reproducer on a junk portable once about eight years ago. 20 bucks.

No, I don't look all day and/or online. After more than 40 years collecting and restoring old phonographs, things sometime find me. I have given away several phonographs over the years and countless parts to other collectors. Sometimes a good will gesture gets returned.

It’s all up to perseverance. Getting your name out there. Driving many miles. Wining some. Losing some.

Also we’re seeing a generational passing. Many rare items will come out of hiding, from years of slumber.

I’m a devotee of American Flyer S gauge trains of the post war era. Within the last four years I’ve found the first Hudson locomotive set of 1946. And the last Hudson set of 1965. Just from attending estate sales. Just being in the right place at the right time. Plus perseverance.

I’ve been attending the Union show, plus the new APS, for more than I can remember. I don’t know Ken real well. But his booth at these shows is always filled with displays of various phonograph parts. Even bought from him to complete some machines I was working on. His perseverance in hauling this collection of heavy phonograph junk around helps me and many other collectors.

Look into joining CAPS if you aren't already a member. Lots of great collectors in California.
