Amberola Stylus Help

Post by mrvic2 »

Hello Everyone.
I have a feeling the Stylus on my new-to-me Amberola 75's diamond C reproducer might be damaged, due to the fact small amounts of debris come off of perfectly clean records, & it fails the fingernail test. I'm going to try to look at it under a microscope soon to see if I can see any damage. Can anyone show a picture of a damaged vs Undamaged Diamond under a microscope?
Thank you for your help.

Thank you for the picture!
I was able to get these two pictures from my dad's digital microscope, unfortunately, I don't think it's high quality enough to see if there's any damage, or maybe I'm missing something

What kind of records are you playing? That type of Amberola can only play celluloid cylinders.

It's possibly a good idea to send the reproducer out for a proper checkup. An experienced restorer (looks at the Members list 8-) ) should be able to make sure about the stylus, and replace it if necessary.

Go to Facebook and look up Wyatt Marcus. He has new diamonds for all of the Edison reproducers. He is near Rochester, NY.
