Re: WANTED: Standard Talking Machine Style X Parts

Hi- I have an X tone arm (aluminum tone arm-- Not the black support arm)-- I believe that's the only part that I have, but will look for more. Will send PM.

I'm a bit puzzled by the "Seller Canceled" comment above- Just want to make sure it wasn't in reference to me.. ??

The OP was looking for parts for a Standard X- I have some of the parts he said he needed and he agreed to purchase them. I had them packed and ready to ship. Unfortunately, he didn't have the Standard X machine in hand and said that the Ebay seller of the machine didn't follow through, so he no longer needed the parts I was selling. Frustrating, but oh well.

I think the lesson here is-- Don't post a want-ad for parts for a machine that you don't have in hand-- I spent time pulling the parts out of boxes, taking the pictures, exchanging several PM's and, after OP agreed on price, I packed them up for shipping. Then, since he could no longer secure the machine, I was informed the parts were no longer needed.

Not a big deal-- I'll be listing the parts for sale soon since i have them out and already packed up-- but just want to make sure the finger wasn't pointed in my direction.
Thanks-
Brad Abell

I can't imagine how that would be the case. I'd chalk it up to, (hopefully), a "lesson learned" by a new collector, (the OP, that is).

I expect every new collector goes through a series of "lessons learned." You see them all the time online. For instance, "I have contacted the FB Marketplace seller of a [insert desirable machine here] and I'll be picking it up on Saturday!" Then on Monday, "Gee - the seller sold the (insert desirable machine here) out from under me!" They can't wait to share their good fortune with the world - including a few who would take it from them if given the chance. Or, "I just bought an Edison Gem on eBay. Part of the motor is gone, but my friend says he has the parts. Now where do I find a horn, key, and reproducer for it?" A year later, the same person advertises their Model A Gem for sale - - still minus a motor.

Had the internet been around when I was a teenager, I'd have made the same mistakes. I made a bunch of different ones.

Outune. I didn't mean seller cancelled as in you. The seller which I had purchased the machine from cancelled it. Instead of waiting for it to arrive, I started searching parts. Sorry everyone, and sorry Brad. I made a poor mistake.

You're among friends. Most of us have been your age and experienced your enthusiasm. Time is your friend.
