Post by ajhuth1877 »

I was wondering if The Original Dixieland Jazz Band on Victor records are rare/valuable at all?

Thanks for any information you can provide! :)

Most sold very well in their time. So not much value today.

Check out some of the prices ODJB records have actually sold for over the years here: https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch ... l=&fcatno=
The Aeolian Vocalion records are generally the big winners when it comes to prices for the band in question. Some of the Victors and other labels can do very well.

I bought a lot of very clean and unworn ODJB records in the classifieds here about a couple of months ago, including the ODJB One Step/Livery Stable Blues. A record I have never come across in the wild in 30 years of collecting, and have seen go for some decently high prices online due to the historical significance of being the first jazz record, ever.

I got a great price as well - what I paid for the whole lot I would have been thrilled to pay for that record alone.

I don’t think it’s particularly rare, but it IS sought after and can go for $100+ in the right condition. I’m guessing Popsike probably tracks a few notable sales.

Would you believe the same week I received the copy I bought here, I also finally stumbled across a copy at a local sale? Not as clean as the one I got here, but respectable enough and it was a $1 purchase that easily turned into a $50 flip.

Not sure on the value of the others. They may be less common, but less notable and therefore less desirable as well.
