Update 6/23/25: This machine looks much better now in its proper case! I have a set of latches to go on the case but I'm not sure what type of screws I need because the latches didn't come with any.

There are two processes to recover a filed off serial number. One is to use acid such as the police do but this causes damage to the metal. There is a second method that uses electricity and a powder applied to the surface. When the current is turned on the powder arranges it self revealing the serial number. This happens because of the structural change made to the metal where the numbers are struck. I had an Edison Home Suitcase machine with a filed serial number. This was commonly done to machines that were either stolen or new machines sold by an unauthorized Edison dealer.

Yeah, I think I’ll stay away from the Acid method. I mean it would be nice to know the original S/N but it’s also apart of this machine’s history on the seedy part of the phono business.

I got the proper screws, so now my Home has a set of latches! Everything is coming all together!👍
