The pinacle of Edison Frankenphones

Post by Andersun »

Part Amberola 30, Part Madness! Warning very graphic material. Edison phonograph collectors may not want to look.

The horror! The horror!! Actually, I'd bet if you got the machine and reproducer tuned-up real well it would sound really good. I think that the big tragedy about the later Amberola machines were the unimpressive horns that went with them. This Frankenphone at least has a better horn going for it (might need some caulk, though). Thanks for pointing this out.

I suspect some hobbyist made this up with no intent to deceive anyone- and it could probably sound quite good.

Indeed: I've toyed with the same idea.....

The only difference I'd make would be to make a smaller case for it...... plus adding an 'authentic' "Frankenphone" decal on the case..... ;)

I once had the bedplate [including the mandrel, but not the motor works] for an Amberola 30, and the heart from a Victor Orthophonic [not the outer part of the horn], and considered combining the two for a super-horned amberola, but never got around to doing it. Wonder what THAT might have sounded like? ;)

Yeh... And, only 999.00 starting bid!
Amberola 30 with a Diamond B reproducer, cygnet horn someone painted flowers in, home made crane, and, bracket.
What a steal!
More like highway robbery...
I'd give 200 for parts....
