“On This Day in the History of Recorded Sound…”

July 9, 1907: John Herzog was granted U.S. Design Patent No.38,669 for “Phonograph Cabinet.” This was marketed as the Columbia “Symphony Grand,” the company’s first internal-horn talking machine.

Victor had recently come out with its Victrola,and people were getting tired of the outside horn.edisonplayer
