Dating a 102

Post by Jamiephalliday »

Morning everyone

Im trying to pin down a rough date of manufacture for my 102. serial number is 1020 60648.

Ive had a good old rummage on here and i know this may be a can of worms....

It has the metal turntable and the record stack - i've added a picture with these taken off to see the autobrake, which i think is the second version HMV used?

Thanks

Your 102 dates between 1933, when the wood motor board replaced the metal one, and 1935. From 1936 an oblong plaque bearing a date code beginning with the letter B was introduced.
If the No.16 soundbox is the original, that narrows it down to 1933/34, after which the No.5a replaced it.

Thanks, thats really useful.

It has a No.16 soundbox so that would work with '33.

Thanks!
