Suspicious "Oneida Record Co."

Post by paradroid1793 »

I was browsing & cleaning up some releases on Discogs when I noticed these two listings...

https://www.discogs.com/release/3444206 ... our-family

https://www.discogs.com/release/3444229 ... d-the-fly-

I left a comment saying "I believe this record is not from June 1906- "Released around June 1906, by the Oneida record company of Oneida, New York."

There is also no evidence of the existence of a label called "Oneida Record Co." or "Oneida Record Company" outside of this and another Discogs release.

I think this is not from 1906, being that the label is also hand drawn, a practice unused at the time."

What do you guys think?

A total guess, but I am wondering if someone had a record with a missing label and did this to "make due".

I think you're right but it's weird they would make up a record label and history behind it also. These are probably Victor/Columbia/Decca/Okeh records that this person glued a label on and made up some history.

I googled Samuel's query and also found nothing for "Oneida Record Co." except the Discogs pages. :|

They don't look like early records in the discogs photos. I'm sure they are the titles of real recordings, but the record doesn't look like they match.
