The pics here show the 2 and 4 minute position. With the lead screw hard against the pulley side, when you change speeds it moves the gear case and lead screw to the right. If you change back again the gear case moves back into the pulley housing but the lead screw stays there. See photo three, is there a spring that goes between the lead screw and the bush? Not sure what you call all the parts so forgive names.

Re: Question on Edison Home Please
On the opposite side of the set screw shown in pic 1, you should have another set screw that holds a small "L" bracket which bolts in flush and the end of the "L" fits into the groove of your worm gear to the left of your arrow in pic 1. I will post a pic if you don't have what I am talking about.

Re: Question on Edison Home Please
Here are some pictures of my Home B with the conversion in place. As you can see, there is very little space between the bushing and the centerpost. Adjusting the assembly toward the right allows encplay to be controlled and keep the feedscrew in place. The tab that you need simply holds the feedscrew in place against the bushing and can be made from almost any type of thin steel. I don't believe it has to be spring steel because there is really no load on it.
There should be a small curved spring attached to the hub of the right-hand (driven) section of the pulley assembly. You can see it just below the drive pin in the second photo. This holds a ball in one or the other of the grooves in the shaft and keeps the shifter in place.
The third photo simply shows the whole assembly mounted on the machine.
Hope this helps.
