needs repair in San Diego area

Post by Edison Amberola BV1 »

Looks like Serial No. 6806; difficult to read -- looks like patent in 5/31 and 10/27 of 1888 or 1898 -- is that possible? A few years ago I had a small part replaced -- some sort of spring I believe -- and then it worked fine again like it did when I was a child -- now it doesn't seem to work at all. I know it's a simple machine, but I don't know how to repair it. It has a sort of "on-off lever" on the top, and of course it cranks, but I can't seem to get it to do anything -- it's been sitting unused for some time. Suggestions? I'd like to find someone in the San Diego CA area who knows these machines and who isn't going to charge a lot to repair it or to tell me what I need to do to get it to work again. I've also got three boxes of cylinders for the machine -- "Snookie Ookums" was almost the favorite of my younger brother and myself when we used to go up into the attic in our parents' home in Minnesota and play it -- "All night long the neighbors shout -- cut it out, cut it out, cut it out!" Quite a machine -- beautiful heavy wood case. Any suggestions would be appreciated -- I'd love to be able to play it for other people. Thank you.
