Offering an original Victor M rigid-arm rear-mount phonograph. Serial No. 41550. This phonograph plays 78rpm records. The phonograph case is in very good original condition. The back bracket is original as well as the rigid-arm which has lost its plating. The turntable felt is original. The motor is lubricated and operates well but is noisy, which is common for these early phonographs. The reinforced elbow and horn are original; the crank is not. The reproducer has new gaskets. The swivel arm will need the 2nd hole drilled since it was filled long ago in the event someone wanted to replace the reproducer with a rigid-arm Victor concert reproducer. The Rigid-arm concert is a closer mounting configuration than the regular victor reproducer. It works fine as is. This is ready for use and to become a part of your collection.
The Victor Rigid Arm was a short-lived but revolutionary tonearm design patented by Eldridge Johnson and William Moore in 1902 and sold on Victor phonographs until around 1903 before being replaced by the more advanced tapering arm. Because of its brief production period, six months, and transitional role in phonograph design, machines with the Rigid Arm are prized by collectors today.
This is available for pickup locally in Phoenix, Arizona but can be shipped. In the event of shipping, I use Pirate (UPS) discount shipping service which is the most economical fully insured way to ship. Pirate rates are better than the regular UPS shipping rates and are the exact same reliable service. I would estimate the cost to ship within Continental U.S. would be around $135.00 depending on where you live.
