Hi

Post by digger42071 »

Wanted to say hi. My dad collected phonographs so I grew up with them. I currently have a Columbia BK that has a 2 and 4 minute conversion on it. Recently I found a Victor D at a flea market. It was rough! I sent it off to be restored. It was a fancy cased D. What would be a neet horn to put on it? I can't afford a wood horn. Its early so probably came out with a black and brass horn. Any one know what size it originally had?
Thanks,
Michael Hale

Either of the two largest black & brass horns would be appropriate.

Mike, I have a copy of a Lyon and Healy catalogue with the Fancy Case D (referred to in the catalogue as a Victor V) with the OEM Black and Brass size stated to be the "J" size Horn with 16.5" bell. There are two other larger sizes in this catalog that were Options for the Fancy D. The "K" size at 20.5" and "L" horn at 23.5" brass bell diameters. A wee bit later the "O" size at 18.5 became available for Square case machines, and wood horns a short time after that. Proportionally the 16.5" looks great on the Fancy D and is a fairly common horn to find. John

You can see some photos of the fancy case D on my website pictured consecutively with the J, K & L sized horns. The link is below. The L size looks very large even on the Vic D.

As was already pointed out, any of the three would be correct.

Thanks all! I loved the websight! Thanks again now I have a guide for looking for Victor Horns.

My D was rough. Someone changed the motor out and it came out of a barn. I wanted to see it put back to its glory days. It'll be close when done. Ill post some before pictures and after.

Thanks,
Michael Hale
