Brown Wax Cylinders

I have not worked with brown wax cylinders much and find myself with a group of them at this point. I am aware that new or old stock brown wax (or black) can be shaved an re-recorded on but can these be used?
Mostly Columbia stock with various mold levels but none are cracked or flaking.
