This is unusual...

Post by antique1973 »

Seems odd that someone would only harvest the door hinges and knobs but leave the entire
motor board, motor, tonearm, etc. Just something you don't see everyday.

Maybe this is a similar case of what happened to me due to my own carelessness. I was in the process of restoring a Brunswick console, when the project was put on hold for several years. When it was time to start work on it again I didn't have the slightest clue what had become of the hinges, screws, and the motor.

I know what you mean. I continue to be surprised to find parts I completely forgot I had or misplaced at some point.
I have some organizer baskets I keep my spare parts in now though so its getting easier to keep track of things.

He could have sent those parts out for plating and they were lost.

One old collector I knew [passed on in 1968], needed a replacement tone arm to complete an upright Brunswick [Ultona reproducer]. In a move that made me cringe as a teen-ager just getting going in this field, he bought another complete machine, put it out on the sidewalk in front of the antique shop, removed the tone arm and left the rest of the machine standing there as he drove home with the part he needed.
