Victor Day Centennial!

Post by phonogfp »

Yesterday Fran Pratt and Nate Ostrye stopped over for a visit and we celebrated today's Centennial of Victor Day. On November 2, 1925, Victor formally introduced its new line of Orthophonic Victrolas and electrically-recorded discs. (The records had been quietly in circulation since May.) Victor's new visual styling and sonic performance revolutionized the industry and administered a death blow to hundreds of small talking machine companies. Raise a glass to a hundred years of Orthophonic Victrolas!

Thanks for the graciousness you and Barbie expresed putting up with me for the afternoon, George. As always, I had a great time with you and Nate.

Yesterday, I had the notion to play my 8-9 Orthophonic, which I hadn't touched in some weeks. I guess I was somehow drawn to do so by it being Victor Day, 2025!
