This seems to be a fairly common problem with forums. A quick search will show that this happens elsewhere and for a variety of reasons.

If I start a new post in another forum area, Machines here, I get this URL (before actually posting):

If I start a new post in Music now, I do not get the ?mode extension on the URL.

If this problem isn't going to be solved, a work-around might be tried.

Create a new category, Music 2, and see if it can be posted in.
