FS::Columbia BG Mahogany, All Nickel Cylinder Machine $1250

Post by MarkELynch »

This nickel plated Columbia BG has been in my collection for 20 years and recently overhauled, nice nickel and strong 4-spring motor. 2-minute, 6” mandrel. $1250 Includes original lid and crank. Will pack safely in two boxes and split the cost with the new owner.
This is a robust delixe cylinder machine with a mahogany cabinet and all nickel plated upper works just slightly bigger than the Edison Triumph model.

This exceptional machine is still available. Any Columbia fans out there?

For anyone who thinks that Edison Phonographs offered the best value and quality, compare the $50 Edison Triumph with the $50 Type BG Graphophone. One of them features a 4-mainspring motor, mahogany cabinet with stylish elements, lots of nickel plating, enclosed (protected) feed screw, and no pot metal. I know which one I'd have bought in 1905!

George is right, the Columbia BG is certainly a more elegant design than the Edison Triumph. Included in the design on this and some of the other Columbias are oiling tubes accessible from the top that lead to all the critical motor bearings.

For your interest here are some more photos showing the four-spring motor and gear train.

Wow this is an great looking machine, if I had the money available I would definitely get it. I honestly can't believe nobody has bought it yet. I only have one Columbia cylinder player thats working the other one is down right now. I can't get over how beautiful this machine is.
