Phono-Phan wrote: Mon Nov 03, 2025 9:42 am Awesome records. Thanks for sharing. Did you find most of these locally?
Thanks! Yes. The Columbia's and Okeh Electrics were part of a lot at a yard sale. Someone had passed and these were her mothers.

The Louis Armstrong Okeh was from an antique store and the Parlaphone was ordered online.
Which came first, the intentional purchases or the yard sale finds?
The intentional purchases. I was stunned at the yard sale finds, considering they only wanted $50 for the whole lot, which was a hellaofa deal.

It's mostly blues here, but there were also a lot of spirituals, jazz, and of course hog-lollow and dirty blues. These blues records are pretty damn rare too, and poorly documented.

Some names are recognizable like Louis Armstrong & Ethel Waters but not so much Peg Leg Howell ;)

Someday I might find a Blind Lemon Jefferson record. Those are really rare.

I could drone on for hours about these things- so ask some questions if you're curious.
There’s a Blind Lemon Jefferson record listed on eBay now.

There's another with more bidders and a crack. I won this one but since I don't have enough, I'll have to owe my pa. $92 ain't bad for BLJ. ;)

Not bad. Some years ago I listed two Paramount 12K records on eBay, a Blind Blake and a Blind Lemon Jefferson (the only copies of either artist I’ve ever found “in the wild”). The Blind Blake was more or less unplayable, while the Jefferson was only slightly better. Noisy, but still enjoyable. They brought $150 each. Congrats on your purchase!!

Thanks & congrats for selling those!

Yeah, most of the time Paramounts are in foul condition. No blacks really had the money back in the day to be purchasing new, fine needles, constantly or a quality phonograph. I've seen improvised nails or scrap stick a lot of the time.

I'm glad it was you that got it! I went and checked it out, pretty rough but probably playable. Thank goodness for your pa. Because of my pop spending
$90 I didn't have on a box of records for me I now have a collection of 25 Berliners that I otherwise wouldn't have afforded. ;)
