Victor Metal Horns

Post by cweastlick »

You'd think I'd know this by now. Are Victor external horns brass underneath the black paint?

No. If they were brass, they wouldn’t be magnetic…, and they are…

They are steel underneath the black paint.

If you post a picture of your Victor horn, we can tell you what you have. Some early Victor horns have zinc bells. Some Victor flower horns were made of brass. Some Victor horns were made of fiber. Let's see yours.

Could very possibly be an aftermarket horn.

26 ½ tall and 16 across. The Victor decal turned out to be a paper sticker. Under the black paint is what appears to be a pink primer.

This horn appears to have been a 30-inch all-brass horn for a cylinder machine. Check the outside body of the horn opposite the seam for signs of a hanger. Of course, if it was a soldered hanger, there will probably be no trace of it.

George,
I thought the same thing. I checked but no evidence of a hanger.

The roughly cut small end is suggestive of modification.
