so I need to buy a new governor then?JerryVan wrote: Fri Nov 21, 2025 7:50 pmNo. It's not supposed to be bent.Edisonfan wrote: Fri Nov 21, 2025 7:47 pmIt’s not supposed to be bent? I thought it bent, when I moved the brass ring to the right? Because I was trying to get the brass disc on the left to move closer to the felts, that hang down. I was doing this, because the governor was moving way too fast and caused everything to speed up! I thought the bent spring was supposed to bent, when the collar was moved to the right? Mine came that way when I bought the governor.JerryVan wrote: Thu Nov 20, 2025 7:37 pm
Your governor was perfectly fine and correct for your Fireside, (until the spring got bent). And yes, Hurt is correct that loosening the screw in the center collar will allow you to make adjustments.

Well, I snapped the wire, and I can’t replace it.

Do you mean these circled parts? I'm just reading this. I think they can be fixed, but I'm not quite sure.

Be sure to look up Samuel Murchison Seka on the interwebs for some music and phonograph reading material.

It’s the thin wire between the center brass collar and the brass collar on the end. It’s a tensioner wire, I did not know was supposed to bend?paradroid1793 wrote: Sat Nov 22, 2025 5:59 pm Do you mean these circled parts? I'm just reading this. I think they can be fixed, but I'm not quite sure.

- find another governor or weight assembly, even one of earlier design (w/o the wire)
- remove the broken wire (torch? looks like it's soldered in); get some spring wire the right gauge, cut to length & replace. You should be able to get the wire at a hobby shop.
