Reflections on Stanton's Auction

Enjoyed the Auction the past few days....prices seemed to be stronger, especially on the rare items. 5 inch Concert cylinders were higher across the board. Original tinfoil phonograph 50K, Edison Doll 13K, Class M 14K. Special Triumph with repeater and fancy painted works went for 23K. I feel some of the upward movement was due in part to the rare items from the Domenic Dibernardo collection, that brought collectors out of the woodwork to obtain some once in a lifetime items. Despite the abundance of wood horns from Don Gfell's collection, the prices seemed fairly stable. The last day the prices seemed to moderate a bit as wallets got thin...LOL. I was happy with the purchases I got...An Edison Universal Projector, 35mm films for same, Cover for my Spring Motor Phonograph and a Glass Cranberry-colored horn. If you go to Stanton’s-auctions.com you can find the auction info. Once there you can pull up the lots from each day. If you have a LiveAuctioneers account (very easy to set up) you can also see the prices realized.
As always Steve and staff did an outstanding job. There were some very rare machines in this one. Way above my budget, but always exciting to see and learn. Also always nice to commiserate with folks I only see at those auctions.

It was a great auction. I had a lot of fun, especially catching up with friends that I usually only see at these auctions. Prices were healthier than usual, but some great deals were still out there. I won some bids, and lost some bids... A typical auction experience I ended up with a Victor M frontmount that I really like, and a very nice, green TTCo horn that even my wife thinks is "pretty". I also bought a portrait of an old man with creepy eyes. (That's how a picture of Edison was labled at a local antiques mall I visited a few years back. Every time a see an Edison portrait now, I think of that description.)
