I suggest you back the adjustment screw off a bit. Next slide a cylinder on the mandrel. Next start the machine and lower the carriage with reproducer down to the cylinder. It should play a few groves and start to repeat them. Next lift the carriage and turn the adjustment screw clockwise a tiny amount, Repeat this process until the carriage, in the lower position, starts playing the cylinder more than the few groves where it skipped.

(I did not carefully read all the above helpful comments. If I am repeating someone else's advice please forgive me. :) )

Thanks, Jerry. You've given me a process to apply to the black art of "adjusting the half nut." I'll see how that goes.

But keep in mind, I can play the entire cylinder with only the reproducer. If I put the horn on the reproducer, the whole thing grinds to a stop in 20-30 seconds.

Success!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I did them all (except for the main spring) and the combination of all that tweaking allowed me to play a cylinder all the way through with the horn on the reproducer. (The only minor issue is that it tends to get stuck at about the 80% mark and I think that's because the lead screw has a dent on the threads. I suppose it could also be the cylinder itself but I can't see anything.

I'm gonna let things sit for a day or two and try it again and this time get a video.

Thanks again for all the help.
