Hi,
Could anyone please tell me if I have assembled the lid stay correctly on my HMV 102? I have attached a photo. It doesn't seem quite right.
I want to get this right before fitting the motor board.
Many thanks.....Mike

Re: HMV 102 Lid Stay Assembly Question
Have you tried operating the lid to see if it works? You should be able to push the lid down with a little resistance only, then lift it up with also little resistance until the stop at the top.
Nevertheless, in "The perfect portable gramophone, His Masters Voice" by Dave Cooper, I've found this: So it seems that the upper blade enters the V part over the first roller and under the second one, just the opposite of your photo.
So carefully, take the bladder out of the V, with another hand push up the V so the spring covers into tension, then insert the upper blade properly and release the V part. Maybe you'll need help for that, someone holding the lid while you operate the blade with one hand and the V with the other...

Re: HMV 102 Lid Stay Assembly Question
Hi Inigo,
Thank you for your reply which has helped me to resolve the problem.
I found the picture you kindly sent really useful. I had to remove the "blade" part (attached to the lid) and turn the lower, triangular part, clockwise through about 45 degrees.....against the spring. I then inserted the blade part again and, with the lid resting on my head, I fitted the small bolts securing the blade part to the lid. It seems to work fine now.
Thank you again for taking the time to reply.
Feliz Navidad.......Mike
