Hi. Both the autobrake and the manual brake on my 1936 HMV 102 seem to do very little if anything.
I would be grateful for any advice on how to rectify this.
Many thanks......Mike

Re: HMV 102 Autobrake and Manual Brake Not Working Properly
Here's a picture of my 1949 hmv 102e autobrake. From my understanding, the circled parts interact, causing it to stop. Id assume one of them is missing on yours, but its impossible to know without a picture.
For the regular brake, id assume the brake pad isnt protruding enough to engage, or it needs a new pad, depending on if it does literally nothing or if it barely effects it.

Thank you for your reply.
The rubber part is present and the centre boss on the underside of the platter seems fine.
Do you know what the adjusting screw does please? It's visible in your picture.....has a locknut on it.
Thanks.....Mike

Maybe an absurd note... But have you tried the auto brake with the lever at the top right corner in the ON position? If it is in the OFF position, prevents the auto brake from functioning...

Forgive me but no, I forgot to mention that I haven't had this machine for very long & thus don't have much experience with it. I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable could help.mikeverrechia wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 2:43 pm Thank you for your reply.
