January 27, 1897: Thomas A. Edison filed for a U.S. patent for a “Governor for Motors.” This device would become the motor for the Edison “Home” Phonograph, in production with minor changes until 1913.

Nice info George. I always love the history behind great items that have been produced. This shows how much of a genius he was. I wonder what Edison would think of a smart phone today.
