The back bracket for the M, MS, III, & IV are one size. The back bracket for the D, V, & VI are another size. All those machines use the same size tone arm but the cabinet sizes are different. So to use the same tone arm for different sized cabinets the depth of the back bracket is different. Make sense?

When considering the purchase of any disc machine, always move the tone arm into a playing position and swing it towards the spindle. If the needle does not touch or come very close to the spindle, the machine is probably a marriage of parts.

Jerry,

Thanks for the information .. I just bought a Victor 2 humpback to restore but its missing the tonearm ( I Have the back bracket). I have read that the size of the tonearm is different from the early humpback models to the later models. My horn mount is the y-clamp version and not the later slip in version….Any ideas? I am waiting to receive the machine to look at it closer.

Thanks
Joe

Joe, I wish I could help you and I'll check my parts bin when home. I think, but am not positive, that the majority of Victor II tone arms are the same between the humpback and plain case Victor II. Does anyone know if a tonearm from some VV-IV or VI is correct for a Victor II? Always check to see if the needle hits the tone arm.

Because of such a long production run it is always helpful to reference the machine serial number if known when asking questions like this.
I’m happy to check my Victor reference materials.

Mark,

I have not received the phono yet as I just bought it to restore (its needs it!)…Looking at the pictures the serial number appears to be 18203…

Thanks
Joe
