Berliner Trademark help
I recently made the great mistake of attending a local auction, and after more than 20 years of phonograph collecting dormancy (just phonographs, not other stuff!), found myself sucked back into them. Among some other machines, I've recently acquired an early (J 12xx) Berliner Trademark with a trashed fiber spur gear, but everything else good. Any help from the group on how to make it more than a great wallhanger is appreciated.

Re: Berliner Trademark help
I've seen a few references online concerning the fact that reproduction fiber gears are available, but no supply companies have been mentioned.
There are a few shops, such as "The Gramophone Doctor" that will make reproduction gears to order.
You might want to check with them:

Perhaps someone knows of others

Thanks, I'll check it out. I saw some posts from last year that referenced new gears, but nothing specific. I think there was also a string about some of the variations in early Berliner machines. Not sure if anyone is keeping track of that, as well as approximate production dates. I assume that a number in the 1200's is pretty close to 1897.

Re: Berliner Trademark help
I have seen fiber gears that have been pressed from the shaft and a disc of modern nylon (or perhaps it was delrin) plastic inserted in place of the fiber, then placed on a mill and new teeth milled into the plastic to match the brass. I would imagine any competent machinist could do this.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I also recall there was a string about early Berliner machines and variations and production dates. Is there any update or new information to this topic
