Found: interesting Victor factory-to-dealer pamphlet. Rare?

Post by airgrabber666 »

Entitled "Photogravures of Famous Victor Artists", I am thinking it dates from about 1910-11 or so. Factory sales literature provided to dealers so they could properly decorate their shop. Picked it up at an antique co-op. Inside, it states pricing and sizes for these advertising photogravures (with or without frame) to Victor dealers. Their are about a dozen or more small-sized samples (miniature sepia tone photogravures) of these sales "posters" for the dealer to peruse.

Here is an example of one of the mini sample photogravures. The text on the bottom of the page is size and price information.

I can take pictures of some of the other pages if anyone is interested. One of the other samples depict Enrico Caruso..there are at least a dozen, probably more. Does anyone have any other information on this neat piece of ephemera? I imagine there was only a limited amount printed since it was only issued to Victor dealers. I searched the web but really didn't get many results.

Airgrabber, that is really nice. Gives you an idea of their marketing strategy!

Yeah, I thought it was quite fascinating that they wanted to highlight "dignity" and "quality" in their dealer's showrooms. Something sorely lacking in today's stores...

Very nice brochure! I could be wrong, but I suspect this dates a bit later than 1910/11. Maybe 1915/16? There should be a form number on the rear cover, or on one of the flyleaves. If so, could you post that?
How many pages are in the brochure? Congratulations - - nice find!

Hi, George and thank you for your kind comments. The sample photogravures in the booklet depict concurrent artists and musicians from what I can tell. Therefore, I dated it to 1910-11 because the picture of Caruso therein is from when he played Dick Johnson in "The Girl of the Golden West". The pages in this booklet are bound together at the top and number approximately ~20 or so. Could be more than that. I will count them when I get home and I will also look for a form number while I'm at it. I assume this number will enable one to date the booklet?

Jim, I will snap some more pictures of it - hopefully tonight. It's a bit of a trick to delicately hold the booklet open and at the same time get a clear picture but I will do my best.
