Ugliest Crap-o-phone ever!

I can't work out whether I like this, or it's hideous.

It will be auctioned on Friday in Sydney at Lawson's (auctioneers) sale of the Robert Holmes à Court Collection.

Hi,

Glad this thread was brought back, the machine above is an Extrafon, made in Spain. You will find it on the front cover of the Talking Machine, 2nd edition. My partner bought this machine at the Lawson's auction, we came home with 16 machines that day, including a nice Bettini attachment on an early Edison SM.

I saw this other crapophone on ebay tonight, (posted by recordo) Damn, what will they come up with next, it would have to be the worst ever made.

WOW! I thought I had seen ugly before but these Crap-O-Phones steal my breath away. This is surely a stupid question but are these nasty things mass produced somewhere by Satans Minions or are they just the personification of evil as built by some hideous home hobbyist? I didn't get a chance to use the word "abomination". Darn!

There must be a production line or lines of them in India and China because there are just too many of these abominations (there, got it in for you) to be the results of a couple of hobbyists. I have seen thousands of them in my travels! Think of all those poor destroyed portables!

Portables galore. There are still hundreds of thousands around that are worth next to nothing. Think of the poor children who made them. That is what worries me. These things are made at a minimum of cost, with the cheapest type of solder. Just think what that does with a young boy's lungs. Lead, all kinds of poisonous paints, for only a few rupees a day. Here in the West we would have to wear protective clothing and have controlled spaces, there children work all day without any protection. No wonder so many die before they reach adulthood.

Who buys these things? The huge majority of hobbyists would know better, and the huge majority of the remaining public wouldn't accept one as a gift! I imagine once every 75 years somebody picks up one for atmosphere, but you'd think anyone clever enough to produce one of these abominations (do I get extra points for using that word? ) would be clever enough to do something more profitable as well as more useful.

The photos here are truly hideous but if you like to torture yourself further go take a peek at eBay. Eeeek! Do people really buys these things or are they just found abandoned at their door step?

We have all seen hideous crapophones, but the one posted above, by Ortho Fan, completely gasts my flabber.
