Well, over the years I'm sure we have all found a record that is titled rather strangely. However, I must say this takes the cake in my collection. I'm just worried there is a medical term for a person that shows affection toward a kitchen appliance..... . How would you like to go down into history as a "screwball"????. To my surprise the tune is not too bad and a little jazzy.
Sure you can kiss a Frigidaire, it's just a problem getting them to kiss back.
Seriously, "Frigidaire" was a term applied to people who had a reputation of not being physically affectionate. Today we just say they're "frigid". Could this be what the song is referring to?
Okay! Now I get it. Even though the song is sung by a man, I assume it's being sung from a woman's point of view, something not unusual for popular songs back then. It was a running joke back in the teens, twenties, and thirties, that the ice man (the man who delivered ice for ice boxes) was busy making out with all the housewives he could. He typically was a big burly guy, who was making the rounds while the husbands were at work. Also, if a family had a child that didn't resemble anyone else in the house, the common comment (spoken in jest) was that he/she must be the ice man's kid. You can see how the joke would go. You can't kiss a Frigidaire, but you can kiss the ice man.
