Edison Fireside with Cygnet Horn

Post by oraetlabora »

I just got my first external horn machine. It is an Edison Fireside with a cygnet horn. I am having difficulties getting the horn to "fit". I have the correct metal poles and the spring but the spring does not stretch enough to allow the rubber tube to stay inserted into the reproducer. Am I missing something? Any advice or photos would help. Thanks!

Please provide picture of your machine including horn spring mount and tubing to reproducer.
Thanks!

At the top of the horn crane, the piece where the spring is attached should be adjustable up and down. If it is not as low as it can go, try adjusting it so the spring is lower. Congratulations on your Fireside. Both the Fireside and Cygnet came out very late in the horn era. I believe the Fireside was introduced during a time of high inflation and there was quite a gap between the Edison Gem and the Edison Standard. The Fireside was an attempt to fill that gap. Thanks, Jerry. I am missing that adjustable piece--that explains it! Now the search is on to find that piece. Anyone have an extra one? I will post some photos when I get a chance to take some.

Ron Sitko makes a very nice replacement assembly at a modest price. Jerry Blais

Does anyone have a close up photo of what that piece looks like? I have a whole box of miscellaneous phonograph parts and one might be in there--if I have a better idea of what it looked like. Thanks for all your help.

The photo helps. I think Ron's sell for about $10 to $15. Jerry B.
