Beautiful Custom Cabinet!!

Post by SonnyPhono »

I came across this today and don't recall seeing anything like it. Does anyone have any information/thoughts?

my first thoughts took me back to that ramones song from the late 80s that was tied into the movie version of that stephen king novel... oh I don't want to be buried, in the pet semetery, I don't want to live my life again... etc. etc.

basically reminded me of a pet coffin or monument or something.

Ha ha...I thought the same thing on first glance. I like the legs on it though and it looks like it has the claw style feet that have glass balls in them. Although it's hard to tell from the pictures. I wonder if it's a cabinet designed for a different purpose that was converted to hold the VV-VI or if it was an after market phonograph cabinet designed to hold a VV-VI and the like. Either way I think it's interesting!

Oops! Sorry about the duplicate thread! I don't know how I missed that one. Either way it's interesting for sure. I vote for the funeral thing. Maybe it was designed/owned by a funeral director for funerals. That would be interesting if it had some provenance.

I think it could be a home project by some craftsman with more skill than taste. You see this sort of thing turn up once in a while- a chest of drawers, a radio, or a grandfather clock into which someone threw a bit of every technique they could master. This stops a bit short of that, but it has that "Labor of love" air about it.
