Spectacular multicolored National Gramophone Co. ad of 1898

Post by Starkton »

This full page, multicolored ad, sized 15 x 21", was published in the New York Journal of April 17, 1898. At that time the National Gramophone Co. had just begun to gain a foothold in the market, not least because of the brand new trademark model, which is pictured here prominently with a brass horn! Frank Seaman was a master in advertising and initiated one of the most spectacular talking machine ads ever printed.

That's terrific! What a great poster that would make.

I took the liberty of brightening up the colors a bit in Photoshop:

That is wonderful. Newspaper advertising slips under the radar of most collectors and some of it....like this....is amazing. I've run across some amazing and HUGE Edison ads in the Toronto papers.
Many thanks for posting this gem!

Great ad. Rene, you are a genius with photo shop. However,I know this already...... One of my favorite ads is this Canadian one circa 1903. The magazine is unknown??.
