That's funny! When Yes we have no bananas came upon the scene in 1923 it became an instant hit, with many labels issuing two renditions--one dance band and one vocal. It was everywhere! And it must have driven people nuts. Several months later saw the release of I've got the yes we have no bananas blues, a song about a person who was losing his mind because he couldn't escape the constant presence of Yes we have no bananas. The song contains lines such as "day by day and week by week, it's 'Yes we have no bananas'" and "B A N A N A S, yes, no, take 'em away!"
