Battistini singing bel canto from "I Puritani"

Post by beaumonde »

Here is a delicious rendition of Ah per sempre ti perdei from Act 1 of Bellini's "I Puritani", sung by the great baritone Mattia Battistini (orch conducted by Carlo Sabaino), transferred at 76.6 rpm from HMV 052314 (mtx. 276 ai; recorded 1913 in Milan).

Don't you just love this label? 8-)

Lovely singing and a fine transfer , but what IS that orchestra doing at about 2:32 or so. :D The Italian HMV studio group is often a tad lax, shall we say.
