Wanted: Horn Crane for Edison Fireside Model B

Post by drivewaydad »

I have an Edison Fireside Model "B" with a missing crane assembly. The horn is the larger morning glory measuring 30.5" horn to tip in length. I may have a rusty foot coming to my rescue but still need the pole with extension, spring etc.

Has anyone replaced the Nickel coating on rusty parts like the foot?

I am also looking for a premium replacement belt, as I read some leather belts are poor replacements.

Also need replacement sapphire needle or kit for an "N" reproducer. I bought a refurbished "B" reproducer with a new diamond needle for the celluloid cyclinders, but would like to fix the "N" reproducer to play 4-min wax cyclinders.

I would like to clean up the black bed plate, has grease, grime, and dirt, especially on top of that gold inlay. The gold inlay is the concern, one corner has some green and fading.

What about maintenance & re-greasing gears. Spring maintenance etc?

Wood case in great shape, but I am sure the luster can be improved with a cleaner and protector. I am sure lots of dirt particles are embedded in the finish which is original.

Interesting that my case does NOT have any Edison logos painted on the outside like many I see on Ebay. I don't want to stick a cheap decal on the unit. Trying to keep everything original. Hummm...

My morning glory horn has some cleaning up to be done as well. The tip end is out of round (so I need to re-shape it), and on the 10 panels, one panel had a flat spot bent into the panel 4" from the horn opening, would like to get that fixed if possible. Also don't want to clean with anything that might remove the flowers painted on the horn.

I would appreciate any comments and can post photos if necessary.

Maybe some of my posting should be under a different catagory. I am kind of new at using forums

Thanks, Peter
