Motor of Quality

Post by heineman2011 »

Does anyone know if these Heinemann Motor of Quality motors should have motor noise, I adjust the governor bearings (with the eccentric off center holes) and it does get a little quiter depending how you turn, but there must be a easy way they adjusted these. I have tried different ones and same thing? I wonder if most of these motors all have worn governor bearings. Does anyone make new governor end bearings for motor of quality?

I think Victor motors are quieter.

I am not too familiar with Heinemann motors specifically, but any motor using straight-cut gears to couple the governor are going to be louder than motors using worm gears, such as you find on later Victor and Edison disk machines. Worn gears will be louder. Sometimes to reduce noise you can shift the governor bearings laterally and then of course you have to re-adjust the speed regulation pad.

Usually these motors are very quiet. I have one in my kimball, the last time I looked at the motor was probably in high school. I thought these had a fiber gear that engauged with a worm gear for the speed regulator, which means that there could be trouble caused by someone oiling the fiber gear, causing it to wear, and be noisy??
