Found an A-200 Diamond Disc

Post by john9ten »

Hello all
Here is an A-200 Diamond Disc that I picked up at the CAPS show. Some of you will remember I was looking for one. Thanks to Tom Hawthorn I have one now.
These pics are before any cleaning, polishing, dusting, etc. This was in a building at Tom's for some time. The painted horn is nice; I don't know why they would cover it with cloth. I may not replace the cloth, not sure yet. Seems a shame to hide that nice graining. Also the horn is in two pieces, with a connection like a cygnet horn. The record drawer is divided by wooden dividers for each record, rather than dividers for ten records like in the later machines. The paper index is also present. I do not show the reproducer, but it came in an original leatherette covered box, very nice. The bedplate is brown with scroll decorations and a very unusual brake, the only one I have seen like this on a DD model.

I have never seen a brake like this on any other DD phonograph.

Nice! Those earlier DD machines certainly had a lot of class.

John,

I bet you can't wait to clean her up! That is the fun part. Looks like a great machine!

Hi John,
Nice machine. I have an A-200 machine also. I had no idea about grille cloth. Mine didn't have any. The really cool feature about these machines is the big glass knob on front. Enjoy your machine.

Congratulations! Be gentle with that cleaning. it doesn't appear to need much.

What's the SN and is it also stamped underneath the platter?
