I'm thinking of picking this and a few more like it up for our kids to play on a portable, (that they can't do too much damage to) however the seller says that the record is a vinyl 45rpm. I think it's clearly a shellac 78rpm.
Your opinions would be appreciated.

I believe it's actually a bakelite 78rpm.

Re: Advice on Children's record
It says "unbreakable", so I think it's probably a vinyl 78. I don't think RCA ever made 45s in that format, and it's definitely not an lp. I also think that early "post 78" RCA records had the speed clearly indicated on the label.

I think it' RCA's version of hard vinyl that was also used for pressing V-discs. The '45' in the catalog number quite probably is the year of issue.

Re: Advice on Children's record
I also have some children records which are made of a thick cardboard coated with a layer of bakelite. They are unbreakable in the sense that they won't break in two if they fall on the ground. They are also very light in weight so in any case the chance of damage by drop is minimal.
Don't know if this is the case, but may be. However this definitely is a 78 rpm.
