I could not believe that someone would do this to an "L-Door". It sort of looks like they wanted to make it look like an Antique. At least they has the manual!

They're definitely asking too much for it. This type of "L" door is not hard to find. I bought one for $500, and it included the manual, several record catalogues from Victor and Columbia, a 1911 Victor products catalogue, and all the original albums. As an added bonus, it had not been painted green.

This isn't someone advertising their unit for sale... as the title says, its sharing with us the tragedy of an L-door painted green.

I enjoyed seeing it.

I have a later model XVI that suffered the same green fate. I bought it for parts several years ago and have no plans on refinishing it because you'll NEVER get that green paint out of the grain in mahogany!

Do you think they actually chose that color and had it made OR they found the paint in a dumpster and brought it home with them? Especially nice is they way they left the interior in the contrasting mahogany color.

It looks like it was painted with an antique paint kit that was popular in the 1960's. You got a base paint and an antique glaze to brush and wipe over the paint. I painted a box for my Mother with one that looked the same. Remember it was the 60's !

My folks won a RCA color TV in 1959 and I suspect it was one of the first in Albany. The only programs were the Wonderful World of Disney and Bonanza. Do you remember the NBC color peacock when it spread its tail feathers? In those days, the TV repairman seemed to make a visit very other month or so to make a minor repair. By the time I went away to college in the early 70's, the TV was considered old and was replaced so I was able to take it to my first apartment. I was just a big ugly mahogany box so we "antiqued" it yellow. Color TVs were not common near campus so there was always a crowd to watch something special. One of the quirks was the vertical hold. Someone needed to keep their hand on that dial to prevent the picture from flipping. At every commercial break the person adjusting the vertical hold would be replaced by the person next in line. I was the person adjusting the vertical hold knob at the end of Brian's Song, the movie about Chicago Bears running back, Brian Piccolo. The movie was a tear jerker and there wasn't a dry eye in the apartment. I remember turning off the TV and leaving the room without looking at anyone. At the end of the school year I sold the TV for $50 cash. I helped the buyer load that big yellow box into the trunk of a Rambler Classic. Jerry Blais
