Suggestions where to find dates of all variants of VV-IV ?

Post by 1923VictorFan »

Hi Guys,
I've looked extensively online and even bought copies of "Look for The Dog", "The Fabulous Phonograph" and "America on Record as well as the Eric Reiss "The Complete Phonograph". I'd like to find the dates for major/minor changes that were made to the VV-IV over the course of its 15 years of production.

To be more specific...When for example was the flat crank replaced by the round one. When was the crank moved from its right forward location to the right-rear spot? The shift from a hinged motor board to removeable one? The changes in case dimensions. All stats that I have found thus far show the IV and VI as having the same case measurements despite reading everywhere that the IV was smaller.

Many Thanks in advance for any assistance renderd

I suggest "The Victor Data Book". It is the best source I know of for tabulating the various changes the the Victor machines. If the information that you want is not listed, then it has probably been lost to history.

I second the recommendation for The Victor Data Book. It lists dates, serial number ranges, and equipment changes for virtually every Victor and Victrola laid out in an easy-to-use format. I've used it often.

try searching the forum, this has been discussed a few times before - I also thought someone was actually compiling a data base of serial numbers for all the various versions of this model. aside from that, as above, the victor data book, it's bigger and far more detailed than look for the dog, with information on not just every model, but every version of every model. I'm pretty sure it's in print, paperback, for 30 or 35 bucks.
